There are 18 UNESCO-designated World Biosphere Reserves in Canada alone, and four of those are in Ontario: Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve, Long Point Biosphere Reserve, Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve, and the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve.
World Biosphere Reserves are areas consisting of terrestrial, marine, and coastal ecosystems, and demonstrate the region’s geographic, ecological, economic, and cultural diversity!
Of the four in Ontario, three of those have adopted the Amazing Places program, which began in the Fundy Biosphere Reserve, promoting ecotourism to breathtaking destinations, following Leave No Trace principles!
